The Little Mill
The Little Mill started life as a watermill, as did many houses in the area, driven by water from the Esse stream which runs along the front of it. Although the original workings have long since disappeared, there is still evidence here and there of its original purpose. The 2 hectares of land on which it sits comprise mainly steep hillside, thickly wooded with the indigenous oak trees. This unspoiled area is protected from further development and contains a rich variety of wildlife, including porcupines, squirrels, foxes, and a wonderful range of birds: Golden Orioles, Hoopoes, blackbirds, finches, swallows, to name a few. The stream provides a constant sound backdrop which varies with the seasons; it is home to fish, frogs, damsel flies, crabs, and a variety of crawling and flying insects. Children love it!!
